1891 – Beginning of Salesian Mission in Africa
The Salesians of Don Bosco began their missionary work in Africa, inspired by St. John Bosco’s vision of educating and empowering young people, especially the poor and marginalized.
1980 – Arrival of Salesians in Kenya
On January 10, 1980, the first Salesian missionaries arrived in Kenya, marking the beginning of a new chapter in youth education and evangelization in the country.
1984–1985 – Establishment of Don Bosco Boys Town
Don Bosco Boys Town was founded in Karen, Nairobi, to provide technical and vocational training for disadvantaged youth, helping them gain practical skills for life.
1987 – Expansion of Training Facilities
The institution expanded into a large training complex, offering programs such as electrical, mechanical, welding, carpentry, and construction.
2000s – Growth and Professionalization
Don Bosco Boys Town developed into a recognized TVET institution, integrating life skills, discipline, and character formation alongside technical training.
Today – A Leading Youth Training Center
Today, Don Bosco Boys Town stands as one of Kenya’s leading vocational training centers, empowering thousands of young people through modern programs such as dual apprenticeship and industry-based learning.
About Don Bosco Boys’ Town
Don Bosco Boys’ Town is a technical institute providing comprehensive education that encompasses technical skills, moral values, and holistic human development to empower young men and women to become productive and respected citizens of their country.
Typically, our students fall within the age range of 18 to 22 years and come from the most underprivileged and vulnerable segments of Kenyan society. To achieve our mission, we offer a two-year technical program tailored to meet their unique needs.
Our Educational Approach

Our training program consists of a two-year technical curriculum supported by intensive practical workshop sessions.

Students participate in closely supervised apprenticeships and prepare for the Grade III Government Trade Tests, conducted annually.
Program Structure
During the first year, students choose a course aligned with their interests. In the second year, they are encouraged to pursue a complementary trade to broaden their skills and opportunities.
Certification and Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students are awarded the Don Bosco Merit Certificate and, depending on their specialization, the Government Trade Test Certificate.
This comprehensive education equips graduates with practical skills, recognized qualifications, and the confidence to pursue meaningful careers and contribute positively to society.
