Don Bosco Mission Wau started in January 1985 with Fr. Ernesto De Gaspari. He started as a Rector of the minor seminary of the diocese of Wau, and principal of the John Paul 11 senior secondary school. In 1988 Fr. Ernesto started Carpentry department in the diocese. And soon the substation of the cathedral, St. ‘Joseph the worker’ at Sika Hadid turned into a parish and Salesians moved into the Sika Hadid area.
The DB VTC moved to new place in 2000, came with it the printing press and carpentry. And started two new trades Welding and MVM. 2001 Masonry department was started. Electrical department was started in 2002 and Computer department in 2005. Don Bosco Community of Wau, decided to open the Children Care Centre in the year 2011 with Fr. Sunil who was the first coordinator. Fr. Sunil, with the help of the few local volunteers like Mr. Luka and few Polish volunteers to establish the Centre. There was also one Japanese volunteer namely Mr. Chihiro who was part of this establishment of the Centre from 2012 to 2014. Mr. Chihiro later to decide to become a Salesian. 2019 three more new trades started at the VTC. The plumbing, Fine Arts and Solar Energy.
At present Don Bosco Mission Wau is comprised of St. Joseph’s the worker parish with 7 substations, Don Bosco VTC with 8 departments, Child Care Centre (Street Children Ministry), Daily Oratory and Youth Centre activities.
